The QDY metallurgical overhead crane is a special product improved and designed on the basis of the QD general‑purpose overhead crane to meet the special working conditions of the metallurgical industry. It is the core equipment for handling molten metal (e.g., molten steel, iron) in metallurgical and foundry shops, and can also be used for handling red‑hot solid metal. The QDY metallurgical overhead crane is equipped with heat dissipation reflectors, offering excellent heat resistance and performance in high‑temperature environments. In addition, the following optional configurations are available: rotating spreader, fixed gantry hook, load weighing and display.

Main structure and core components

To ensure safety under extreme working conditions, the QDY has a specially reinforced structure.

Bridge structure: The main girders are of box type, with a double‑girder bridge structure. To improve stability under extremely heavy loads, a four‑girder, four‑rail structure is adopted in some working conditions.

Hoisting mechanism: Single‑trolley, double‑hook type. The main hook and auxiliary hook work together: the main hook handles the ladle, and the auxiliary hook is used for tilting/pouring molten metal.

Dual brake system: One brake on the motor and one on the gearbox, ensuring safe and reliable operation under impact and high temperature.

Dual limit protection: The hoisting mechanism is usually equipped with multiple upper limit switches.

Dual motors, single drum: The main hoist uses dual‑motor drive to ensure ample power and smooth operation.

Wire rope: High‑temperature‑resistant steel‑core wire rope is used at critical lifting points, equipped with anti‑detachment devices to prevent the rope from jumping out of the groove.

Travel mechanisms: The crane travel mechanism drives the whole crane longitudinally along the workshop rails. The trolley travel mechanism drives the trolley transversely along the main girder rails.

Electrical control system

Motors: All motors are H‑class insulation grade, special for metallurgical cranes, capable of stable operation in high‑temperature environments.

Speed control methods: Advanced stator voltage regulation or frequency conversion technology can be adopted, providing smooth start/stop and reducing load swing.

Control system: PLC (programmable logic controller) integrated control, enabling precise operation of each mechanism and real‑time equipment status monitoring.

Safety protection: Integrated functions such as overspeed protection and forward/reverse contactor fault protection to prevent serious accidents like motor runaway.

Safety devices

Overload limiter: Automatically gives an alarm and cuts off the hoisting circuit when the lifted weight exceeds the rated value.

Overspeed protection device: Monitors motor speed to prevent falling of the load due to runaway.

Limit switches: Dual upper limit protection to prevent the spreader from hitting the top.

Anti‑collision device: Automatically decelerates or stops when an obstacle is detected, preventing collisions.

Heat insulation layer: Heat insulation layers are provided on the bottom of the main girders and the bottom of the cab to protect against heat radiation.

Operator’s cab: Standard with a heat insulation layer, and can be equipped with an industrial cooling fan. The crane supports cab operation, ground control, and wireless remote control to meet different working requirements.

Application scenarios

1.Steelmaking shops: A specific application of the QDY model as a ladle crane, mainly used for handling, transporting, and pouring molten steel ladles.

2.Other molten metal workplaces: Can also be used for handling molten non‑metallic materials and red‑hot solid metals.

Core Features

1.High temperature resistance and strong adaptability: H‑class insulation heat‑resistant motors are used, and reliable heat insulation layers are provided on the bottom of the main girders and the cab, enabling long‑term stable operation in extreme environments up to +60°C.

2.Extremely high safety redundancy: The hoisting mechanism adopts a dual safety design of "dual brake system + overspeed protector", ensuring absolute safety when handling molten metal through hardware measures.

3.Designed for specific processes: Different from general‑purpose cranes, it is specially designed for handling molten metal, offering superior performance, safety and reliability.

4.Smooth and efficient operation: Stator voltage regulation or frequency conversion technology, combined with a PLC control system, achieves smooth lifting and lowering under heavy loads as well as precise positioning, significantly improving operational efficiency and safety.
