The metallurgical charging crane (also known as scrap box crane) is a special metallurgical crane dedicated to adding scrap steel and other auxiliary cold materials to converters or electric arc furnaces in steelmaking workshops. Its core handling object is a special charging box loaded with cold materials such as scrap steel. The crane's rated working load is the sum of the weight of the charging box and its contents. This crane has a clear division of work from the metallurgical ladle crane (mainly used for handling molten metal / steel ladles) and is an indispensable key piece of equipment in the steelmaking process. In the converter steelmaking process, the charging crane is responsible for adding cold materials into the furnace; in the electric arc furnace steelmaking process, it is mainly used for adding scrap steel to the furnace.

 

The metallurgical charging crane has two main structural types:

 

Double‑girder, single‑trolley: The bridge adopts two parallel main girders as the load‑bearing structure, equipped with one lifting trolley. The structure is relatively compact and suitable for general charging requirements.

 

Double‑girder, double‑trolley: The bridge is equipped with two independently operating trolleys that can cooperate to complete more complex charging operations, providing higher operational flexibility. A console control system allows the two trolleys to operate synchronously or independently, and the two hoisting mechanisms can also operate synchronously or independently.

 

Application scenarios

 

1.Converter steelmaking workshop: Adding scrap steel and other cold materials to the converter – the core equipment in the entire steelmaking charging process.

 

2.Electric arc furnace steelmaking workshop: Mainly used for adding scrap steel to the electric arc furnace.

 

3.Other metallurgical locations: For adding alloys and other auxiliary materials.

1.High temperature resistance and strong adaptability: The charging crane needs to operate in harsh environments with extremely high temperatures (thousands of degrees near the furnace mouth) and high dust. Key components use high‑temperature resistant materials, and the bridge is built with high‑strength steel and welding technology, providing excellent high‑temperature resistance and dust protection.

 

2.High safety redundancy: As a special metallurgical crane, its duty class reaches A7 and A8, enabling it to meet the high‑intensity operation demands of busy metallurgical and foundry workshops. The crane is equipped with three operation modes: ground control, cab control, and remote control, satisfying operational needs in different scenarios.

 

3.Sturdy structure and high reliability: The main girder adopts a multi‑girder, multi‑rail composite structure. The box‑type structure has longitudinal partitions and transverse ribs inside, forming a spatial frame with excellent torsional resistance. A special fire protection design improves the durability of components.

 

4.Advanced intelligent configuration: The crane can be equipped with an intelligent control system that works with the workshop production scheduling management system (MES), helping customers obtain charging information, prevent various sudden failures, and reduce downtime. A precise weighing device allows customers to accurately know the material mix ratio.

 

5.Precise operation and high efficiency: Designed with an excellent tilting angle for easy unloading of materials. Based on the design concept of fully utilizing workshop space, the overall crane layout is optimized to improve operational efficiency.
